Hello everyone!

After living in this incredible country for over a year, I’m slowly getting used to the Brazilian way of life and society. This isn’t always a very easy process. When I first arrived here, several aspects of Brazilian culture were very surprising to me. Of course there were the obvious differences like the language, the weather and the environment that required a deal of adaptability, but it’s the small, unexpected differences that were most interesting to me. Here is one of the first things that surprised me most during my initial months here.

Hi Mr. Sam!

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

My name is Sam Mitchell and I was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, United States.  I am 23 years old and am lucky to have wonderful parents and a great younger brother.  I graduated in December 2013 from the University of Iowa with a double major in International Business and International Studies with a minor in Portuguese. I moved to Brazil at the end of December and I am really enjoying life in Florianópolis.
