Movie Review

Hello folks! For my contribution to our blog I chose to write about movies. It’s something that I really enjoy and I hope you will enjoy these reviews as well.

So, let’s begin! Today I’m going to talk about “The Amazing Spider-Man 2”. It was the last movie that I watched and I liked it! As a Marvel fan and a Stan Lee fan also, I thought it was a good choice to write about this first.

“The Amazing Spider-Man 2” (or The Amazing Spider-Man 2: Rise of Electro) was released this year (May 1st)  and is the sequel to the 2012 film, “The Amazing Spider-Man”. It was directed by Marc Webb and used the same cast from the previous film, plus some additional actors. Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Sally Field, and Jamie Foxx are some of the stars.

The movie begins by telling us what happened to Peter Parker’s parents and why he is an orphan. Peter continues to fight crime as Spider-Man and he is frequently haunted by Gwen Stacy’s father, George Stacy. Because of this, Peter decides to break up with Gwen.

As the movie continues, we have the appearance of Harry Osborn, heir of the OsCorp Empire, and the introduction of some new villains: Electro, Rhino, and Green Goblin. The movie explains how Electro gained his ability to control electricity after being struck by lightning while working on a power line. Another transformation shown in the movie is the conflict that will lead to Harry Osborn’s transformation into the Green Goblin. As the villains appear, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: OsCorp.

In my personal opinion, the movie explores the struggle that Peter Parker endures because he is Spider-Man, and the choice between protecting the ones he loves or giving up this life.  Besides really enjoying his super powers, Peter is quite affected by his relationship with Gwen, which introduces a lot of drama to the movie.  This sometimes makes us think “Why is he doing that? Why he is so dumb?” Whatever. The movie also tries to show the rise of Electro (as the title says) with his fight against Spider-Man.  But this falls short because it ends too soon. Then the movie turns its focus to Green Goblin.
spider2With lots of special effects, love and drama, some fights (although a bit short),  and a dash of humor, The Amazing Spider-Man is a good choice for those who enjoy Marvel’s superheros and enjoy viewing nice adventure on the big screen.

“There are two types of superhero movies: the ones that brood and the ones that swing. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is proudly the latter, filled with high-energy action.” – New York Daily News
